Overview

The PowerShot SX500 IS Digital Camera from Canon has a 24mm wide angle lens with an incredible 30x optical zoom. This is enough zoom power to shoot almost anything you could imagine, from wide angle expanses to ultra-telephoto close-ups. And with the image quality of the 16MP CCD sensor and high-end performance from the DIGIC 4 image processor, whatever you can imagine will be reproduced in gorgeous colors, sharp focus and accurate exposure. The SX500 is that good. Quality is guaranteed. And so is speed. Autofocus speeds have been improved from earlier models to ensure you won't miss a shot and enhanced Zoom Framing Assist enables focus tracking and capture while shooting in the super-telephoto ranges that the 30x zoom allows.

It's fast and it's powerful, but is it smart? Oh yes. Intelligent Image Stabilization will recognize the type of shot you are taking and utilize the best stabilization technique to give you a sharp, blur-free image whether you are shooting with a long zoom or in low light. The camera will know and will respond accordingly. Same with the Smart AUTO mode, which will auto-select the optimal camera settings based on the image it sees. With 32 predefined shooting situations to pick from, Smart AUTO will choose the one that best matches the scene you are shooting and set the camera to provide accurate exposure and colour.

Smart AUTO mode applies not only to photography, but works with the SX500's HD Video too. Crisp 720p HD Video with stereo sound is activated with a simple touch of one dedicated button and can immediately be screened on your HDTV thanks to the camera's HDMI output. And in case you're not carrying your HDTV with you, the SX500 has a 461,000 dot 3.0" LCD display that can show off your handiwork with accurate colors and contrast.

Enhanced Zoom Framing Assist Zoom Framing Assist makes it much easier to use the SX500's powerful zoom lens. When you press and hold the Zoom Framing Assist function button, the camera will automatically zoom out to include a wider angle of view, enabling you to more easily locate your moving subject. Once you find it, releasing the button will cause the lens to return to its original zoom position, intelligently keeping the subject in focus until you're ready to shoot the perfect close-up moment. You can also make adjustments to zoom while the button is pressed, with an animated assist frame that makes viewing your image frame easy. When the button is released, the lens will return to the adjusted zoom position.
